Europe Youth Top 10
 

25th-28th January - Sheffield

The best English table tennis talent will be pitting their wits against their European counterparts in Sheffield at the end of January, in the Europe Youth Top 10.

Evolving into the Europe Youth Top 10 for 2008, the tournament started its life in San Marino over the weekend of 5th and 6th January 1985 as the Euro Junior Top 12. The then ranked number 1 Junior in Europe and one of two English invitees (Andrew Syed replaced the injured Steffan Fetzner from West Germany) to the principality of Monaco, was Carl Prean, who won the tournament unbeaten in eleven sets and without losing a single game.

Twenty three years later on home soil, England enters the tournament again with the number 1 ranked Junior in Europe, who just so happens to be the defending champion in the form of Paul Drinkhall, along with Darius Knight ranked 6th in Europe and thanks to the evolution of the tournament Gavin Evans, European Cadet number four.

For the first time the tournament is open to 40 players, instead of 24 as in previous years, due to the addition of a Cadet category, so with both male and female competitors, there are now four titles up for grabs. How many will stay in this country?

The Tournament Set Up

Round Robin
The tournament will be played in what is known as a Round Robin format, where all players will play each other once, with those from the same association playing each other first. After all the matches have been played the results will be based on the best 7 games for the Juniors and the best 5 for the Cadets.
