RDO job profile:
Job title: ETTA Regional Development Officer (RDO)
Status: ETTA employee – full-time
Base: Office based within the region of operation
Job purpose: To initiate and co-ordinate table tennis development in the region in accordance with ETTA national policy and priorities that contribute to the ETTA vision of ‘making table tennis the most popular and most successful indoor sport in England’.
Work programme: A national corporate work programme is set annually with core performance targets and flexibility to include a regional focus.
Key work areas include: club and league development, school club links, volunteer support, coach education, facility development, equality and communication.
Reports to: Regional management support group (Regional Chairman, Regional Coaching Co-ordinator, National Development Manager).
Responsible to: ETTA National Development Manager.
Working method: RDOs are initiators, enablers, negotiators and advisers. Their job is to support local Table Tennis – primarily clubs and leagues - through a partnership approach.

What RDO’s can do...
Implement ETTA policy
Visit club, league and counties to explain the ETTA's role and opportunities for members, help achieve CLUBMARK, assist with development plans, make local contacts, feedback views and concerns to ETTA nationally.
Help create school links by attending the initial meeting, provide government agenda knowledge, help with a practical demonstration/exhibition.
Arrange volunteer training courses (coach education, Tournament Organisers, Table Tennis Development Officers).
Gather, hold and circulate information, news, new initiatives/opportunities, course dates.
Identify and explain potential funding sources.
Introduce local partners to clubs and leagues, such as sports development officers, schools and sports colleges etc.
Provide letters of support (except capital projects) and lobby to assist funding applications and development plans.
Access ETTA national officers to provide specialist help and advice, e.g. Facilities Officer, National Child Protection & Equality Officer, UK School Games, Young People & Volunteer Programmes Manager.
Work strategically and prioritise their time and efforts on club and facility development.
What RDO’s can’t do...
Set ETTA policy or have responsibility for media, rankings, coaching, selection, or affiliation fees.
Take the place of volunteers to do jobs such as take minutes of meetings or fill in forms.
Coach on a regular basis.
Tutor courses (except Table Tennis Development Officer silver award courses)
Promote Table Tennis traders unless an official ETTA supplier.
Provide direct funding or actively seek commercial sponsorship.
Apply for funding on behalf of clubs or leagues.
Spend time and effort on work areas outside of their work programme.
React immediately to every request for help.
